Certain focus fabrics (do
not prewash fabric) work best for this quilt. It’s best to choose fabric with a medium to large-scale print,
lots of colors, and a small amount of background. Check out florals, Asian, scenic’s, and juvenile prints. Fabrics with
liens and metallic’s add interest. Small and medium prints or those with just a few colors will not provide enough contrast
and interest in the blocks.
The measurement of the fabric
repeat will determine how many blocks will be yielded. Example: a 12”
fabric repeat will yield approx 33 finished blocks if the squares are cut 3 ½” or 3 ¾”square. So if your project
requires 66 blocks you would double the yardage you purchase. You would need 3-1/2 yards of fabric for block and border.
12” repeat can be cut
at 2 ¾” square and will yield 60 blocks.
4 patch block of 5 inches
finished. This pattern takes 4 repeats. 12 inch repeat x 4 requires 1 3/8 yds; 14 inch repeat x 4 requires 1 3/4 yds; 16 inch
repeat x 4 requires 2 yds; 18 inch repeat x 4 requires 2 1/8 yds and 24 inch repeat
x 4 requires 2 ¾ yds.
* add 1or 2 yds extra of the
main fabric for your borders. (pattern calls for 2 yds)
Sashing fabric= 1yd (fabric
needs to be a solid or read as a solid.
Finished sizes will
vary depending on fabric chosen and layout. You may choose to make a throw size or a full quilt. Please refer to pattern to
determine how much fabric will be required based on the fabric repeat of the fabric you select. You need a minimum of 4 repeats
to create this pattern. Prior to class press all folds out of your fabric!
